Basic Elements of Interior Design

In the world of interior design, some things become basic elements in interior design. These basic elements are key in designing an aesthetically pleasing space or house is to keep the whole element in balance.

In addition to beautifying the appearance of a room, harmonizing elements of interior design can also add functionality to each room. First, an interior designer will judge a room based on the basic elements of this interior design. Then, these elements will be used to disguise the various shortcomings and highlight the various advantages of the room by the principles of interior design.

Room

In designing, we have the opportunity to maximize the three dimensions of space by the elements of interior design, namely length, width, and height. These three dimensions of space can be filled or left blank, depending on what you want to get when viewed in terms of functionality and design.

Different types of designs will influence the functions of these types of spaces, for example, minimalist designs will have more negative space than eclectic designs. However, whatever design concept you want, the way you utilize and balance the available space can be the difference between design concepts that fit your expectations and “messy” designs.

Form

What is meant by form here is the physical form of everything in a room that has three dimensions. Shapes usually consist of geometric and natural shapes. Geometric shapes are usually found on prominent lines and corners, and look like they are man-made. In contrast, natural forms are organic forms made by nature so that their shapes are more asymmetrical. Shapes can be open or closed objects.

Another thing that must be considered from the form is the proportion and scale of the room compared to the object in it. Adding objects with similar shapes will create harmony and balance in the elements of interior design while adding too many different shapes will feel confusing. A room will look more comfortable if the dominant form is duplicated on small objects in the room.

Color

Color is one important element of interior design that must be mastered by an interior designer. Color can build atmosphere, highlight the features of the room, as well as give the illusion of a spacious room. Color psychology should not be underestimated and can be maximized by skilled interior designers. Color can bring up memories and change emotions by stimulating the physical and psychological responses of our bodies. For example, green and blue colors create an impression of calm and suitable for use in the bedroom, while red can encourage appetite so that it is more suitable for use in the kitchen.

When considering the color of a room, first of all, think about what activities will be carried out in the room. Second, consider natural and artificial lighting that will affect the color chosen during the day and night because light can affect color perception. That is why color is very important especially for the interior design school.
