I know I'm biased, but I think my 12-year-old daughter Selah is one of the most amazing people on the planet. A few months ago she let me know that she wanted to make a public statement of her decision to follow Jesus with her whole self, for her whole life.
Below is the 3 minute video of her baptism, and the words she shared beforehand.
*Also, it's especially precious to me that her dad, and my dad, were the ones baptizing her! And her little sisters and cousins were bouncing up and down with joy the whole time! So much happiness!*
"So, I was feeling awkward about sharing today and my Dad encouraged me to not think about all the people, but to think about Jesus standing here, and a whole army of angels - kind of like a scene from a Marvel movie.
And it made me think of the epic scene from the new Thor movie with ALL the white-robed Valkayrie descending on the villian. Anyway, even if you haven’t seen it, we DO have unseen witnesses to this event, and if you see me smiling it’s probably because I’m thinking about Jesus. Or the Thor movie.
So, when I was praying about what to share today, these verses came to mind, so I’m going to share God’s words about what I understand it will be like to follow Jesus, and how I understand His love for me.
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12)
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (Romans 8:18)
Because we know that for those who love God all things work together for good (Romans 8:28)
So blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6)
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
