The Story Behind the Art:
Sometimes I wonder how to explain why the hardship, suffering, and discomfort that comes with being a Christ-follower is worth continuing to follow Jesus.
Especially in those hours that seem to come nearly every day when I want to run away from what is stretching me, forming my character, dominating my days.
I want to grasp for control.
But then I remember an uncomfortable, but comforting, truth: Being your own authority is a myth.
The Spirit reminds me that without Him I quickly become enslaved. Without Him -- I lose my ability to reason rightly, and persevere in self-control.
Without Him -- Love, the very source of real love -- all the love in my world dries up and I become wild, desperate for my thirst to be quenched. My feelings take me hostage and pretend to be reality.
So I choose (often stubbornly, but always gratefully) to let Him be who He is. The King.
And the King of my life uses His sovereign authority to keep me FREE.
He set me free, and He keeps me free.
The longer I follow, the more free I become.
But... the road to freedom can be exhausting.
Which is why I love the promise that with Christ our strength is renewed so we can "soar on wings like eagles".
The free gift of perspective comes with a "bird's eye" view/renewed strength -- and greater trust in the One who can see the entire, eternal picture.
You are valuable enough for the King Himself to lay down His life to set you free.
And who He sets free -- is free indeed!
